Money

The unit of currency is the Egyptian Pound (EGP), which isdivided into 100 piastres. Most credit cards are accepted in majorhotels and restaurants. Visitors are advised to take travellerscheques in US Dollars or Pounds to avoid additional exchange ratecharges. Banks are usually closed on Friday and Saturday, butprivate exchange bureaux, called 'Forex', are open daily and banksin major hotels are open 24 hours. Cairo branches of the EgyptianBritish Bank and Banque Misr now have ATMs available that acceptVisa, MasterCard and Cirrus and are quite common in the maintourist areas.

Local time is GMT +2 (GMT +3 from last Friday in April to last Friday in August).

Language

Arabic is the official language although English and French are widely spoken, especially in the tourist areas.

Shopping

There are a few shops well worth a visit for gifts, andsnorkelling and beach equipment, but overall Taba Heights doesn'toffer much of a shopping experience.

Nightlife

Taba Heights does not offer a lot of entertainment but offers a 24-hour casino as well as nightly programmes featuring local talents and performances, such as Nubian Troupes and the Bedouin experience.

Activities

It's not common to find a golf course that offers a view ofthree different countries, especially in the desert, but TabaHeights Golf Resort does just that. The marina also offers boattrips across the Gulf to neighbouring Jordan and Israel.Watersports include windsurfing, water-skiing, wakeboarding,parasailing, canoeing and sailing, and the Gulf's extravagant andbeautiful marine life provides wonderful opportunities for divingand snorkelling as well as glass bottom boat trips.

Restaurants

Taba offers a wide variety of cuisine, ranging from Tuscan tooriental and international with many a seafood restaurant gracingTaba's selection of hotels. There are also pubs and grillsincluding a splash bar located at the InterContinental, a swim-upbar and restaurant located between the pool area and the beach.
